Electroacupuncture is similar to normal acupuncture, but in this case small electrodes are attached to the needles, applying a pulsatile electrical current to them. This gives a stronger stimulation and is used in severe or chronic cases.
It is usually very well tolerated by animals, producing a light tingling sensation.
It is especially indicated in cases of paralysis, loss of muscle after an injury and neurological problems (e.g. headshaking in horses).
Moxibustion involves the burning of an herb (Moxa = Artemisa Vulgaris) either or an acupuncture needle or over the skin, with the aim to stimulate the flow of blood and energy. It is especially used for chronic problems and to alleviate the pain in specific areas.
Moxibustion doesn’t burn the skin of your animal. It produces smoke and a strong but nice smell and is better when it is done in ventilated areas.
